Fire Suppression series “Innovate or Evaporate”

It is fair to acknowledge that at times it is somewhat difficult to change traditional practices that are ingrained in training and organisational culture. In a fast-paced world, especially in dynamic environments, at times it is easier and in some instances to “do what we have always done” after all, it takes time and significant effort to change procedures, practices and approaches to fire suppression. Underpinned with an “if it ain’t broke, it don’t need fixing” attitude, innovation and in fact, evolution can be stifled, sometimes even at the “concept” stage.

Evidence-based decision making, inspirational leadership, resilience and enthusiasm are fundamental to effective change management, in my experience, partnerships form the basis of the achievement of exceptional outcomes whether internal or external to the organisation, they are critical.

“You don’t know what you don’t know” is a fact and is an inhibitor to evolution, a true change manager will ensure they establish insight, build relationships and understand the business, then look for opportunities for innovation and enhanced service delivery using partnerships and knowledge from informed sources to guide and inform the transition to the future state. Fire suppression tactics and traditional firefighting appliance throughout the world have all have a place in providing the best solution and better outcome overall. Understanding what’s best at the time of crisis or while under pressure can never just rely on pure instinct or basic calculated risks. It takes educated, trained and dedication from all the hardworking hero’s to fight the big battles.

This BLOG will discuss the concept of the development and implementation of Compressed Air Foam or (CAF) capability within the global fire industry. Readers will find this BLOG insightful, interesting, (sometimes frustrating….) and educational, welcoming you aboard your CAF journey.
